Every county in California has a different timetable in processing adult adoptions and setting them for final hearing so the adoption can be granted and made official and permanent. For those in Los Angeles County, you are in luck!

First off, only one of the parties needs to reside in Los Angeles County to file here, either the adopting parent(s) or the person being adopted (the adoptee). If you live in different counties, you can choose either one to file in, but in almost every case, Los Angeles County is superior.

Los Angeles County has had the fastest time in setting cases for hearing in the entire state for several years now. This is due to excellent staffing, giving priority to adoptions, and an excellent judge who is primarily responsible for the adult adoption calendar. When you are dealing with an experienced adult adoption attorney who knows the ins and outs of working in the Los Angeles County courts, the adoption documents are usually accepted for filing, and you have an official case open with the court in HOURS, not days or weeks like in some other counties. And the court date is usually set within 1-2 business days after that.

And the final hearing itself? This is usually set in about 2-6 weeks. This is incredibly fast. Most counties schedule 2-3 months out. Los Angeles County's neighbor, Orange County, is 3-6 months out, one of the state's slowest. So if you live in Los Angeles County, celebrate!
